Trevor Scott Participates in Uniform Law Conference Group Recommending Trust Indenture Law Changes

Farris partner Trevor Scott recently participated in the Uniform Law Conference of Canada working group which recommended changes to trust indenture law.

Trust indentures are used in debt financings to simplify the issue of bonds, notes and debentures to multiple investors.  The working group’s report to the Uniform Law Conference of Canada recommends continued regulation of trust indentures, harmonizing laws across Canada, extending regulation to include non-corporate entities, giving responsibility for regulating trust indentures to securities commissions, and providing exemptions from local laws for bonds covered by the comparable laws of another jurisdiction.
