TIM DICKSON APPEARS IN THE SUPREME COURT OF CANADA ON HISTORIC ABORIGINAL TITLE CASE

The Supreme Court of Canada heard the appeal on the Tsilhqot’in First Nation’s historic Aboriginal title case on November 7, 2013. Tim Dickson intervened in the appeal on behalf of the Gitxaala First Nation, in support of the Tsilhqot’in’s claim. The case concerns the test for proving Aboriginal title and is the most significant case on Aboriginal title to reach the Supreme Court since Delgamuukw in 1997. The case offers the potential of a viable economic base for First Nations if the Supreme Court adopts the broader conception of Aboriginal title.
