On September 16, 2009, Farris Associate Ryan Neely presented a paper entitled “Loss of Employment and the Effect on Permanent Resident Applications at a CLE on Immigration Law called “Working Your Way Into Canada - 2009.”
The paper discusses the effects of employment loss on the pending residence applications of foreign nationals, especially given the recent economic downturn. Calling for swift action from counsel in response to such changes, Neely concludes that while loss of employment will, in some cases, have no effect on clients’ applications, for other applicants it will detrimentally affect their ability to process through to permanent residence. Alternative measures are available to some clients, but they must be enacted with speed and efficiency.
