Kevin Smith contributes to new book on Protecting Children in Armed Conflict

On November 2, 2018, a launch event was held in London, UK to promote Protecting Children in Armed Conflict, a new book written by an international team of lawyers including Farris Associate Kevin Smith.

The book is published as part of the ongoing Inquiry on Protecting Children in Conflict, initiated by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown in April 2017 and supported by the charities Save the Children and TheirWorld. As part of the Inquiry, UK barrister Shaheed Fatima Q.C., was asked to convene a panel of lawyers to analyze the protection offered to children in conflict situations by international humanitarian law, international criminal law and international human rights law, and also assess the related adjudicative accountability mechanisms. The book, published by Hart/Bloomsbury, makes a number of recommendations and proposals for reform, with a view to enhancing accountability and deterring future violations.

For more information about the Inquiry, see Mr. Brown and Ms. Fatima Q.C.’s article here. More information about the book itself is available here.
