Farris Lawyers Play Hockey to Help Homeless

This Friday, November 27th, 2015, Farris will be sponsoring a team to play in the “Hockey Helps the Homeless” tournament.  Four Farris lawyers, Jay Sujir, Don Richards, Alain Saint-Onge, and Matt Laszuk will play in a tournament with former NHL players to raise money for essential services to help homeless men, women and children in Vancouver. Last year, the “Hockey Helps the Homeless” tournament raised over $400,000 which went directly towards:

  • Program expenses for women & families at Powell Place Emergency Shelter for Women
  • Drop-in program at Covenant House, serving over 1,400 homeless youth
  • An outreach vehicle and beekeeping program at Rain City Housing’s shelters
  • Sports and leadership training programs for over 250 youth at the Urban Native Youth Association
  • Program costs for a new social enterprise employment program and moving vehicle at Lookout Emergency Aid Society
  • A new boiler and storage services to provide a sense of privacy and security for over 500 homeless at First United Church Ministry
  • Outreach vehicle for The Salvation Army
