Farris Hosts Roundtable for Visiting Congressional Staff

June 29, 2015

Farris Partners Keith Mitchell, Q.C. and Al Hudec presented an executive briefing on current Canada/US trade issues to a group of Congressional staffers visiting Vancouver as part of this year’s The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars - Canada Institute 2015 Congressional Staff Trip. Keith and Al were joined by James Gorman, the Vice-President of Corporate and Government Relations for West Fraser Timber and former President and CEO of the Council of Forest Industries; Don Guy, VP/Managing Director of GQR Canada, a leading Canadian public affairs advisory boutique, and David Keane, President of the BC LNG Alliance, the industry group for the leading LNG proponents in BC; and, until recently Vice President, Policy and Corporate Affairs for BG Canada.

The roundtable discussion included topics on the implications of the upcoming expiry of the Canada/US Softwood Lumber Agreement; prospects for the development of a Canadian LNG export industry, timing and scale; the political aspects and ramifications of oil and gas pipelines; and understanding the role of First Nations in the development of Canada’s resource projects. Approximately 29 congressional staff were in attendance for the event and a lively discussion followed the panelists’ presentations.
