Dominic Petraroia and Al Hudec Appear in Canadian Lawyer Magazine on BC’s Wine Industry

Farris Managing Partner, Kelowna Dominic Petraroia and Partner Al Hudec are quoted in an article by Glenn Kauth entitled,  “A lot of Wine-ing: Canada’s Growing Wine Industry Offers Lawyers Opportunities for Business and Pleasure.” The article appears in the September 2009 issue of Canadian Lawyer Magazine. In it, Kauth writes about the growing opportunities for lawyers in Wine Law, including “the fact that while the industry is growing, laws around wine remain a work in progress, especially given the legacy of government regulation of the sector stemming from prohibition-era legislation.”

Dominic Petraroia is quoted in the article as saying, “The hugest barrier is distribution because you can’t just produce great BC wine or great wine from the Niagara region and ship it all around Canada.”

Al Hudec is also quoted in the article, commenting in response to s.121 of the Constitution Act, which requires that Canadian goods “be admitted free into each of the other provinces,” that he would “like to find a client that’s willing to pursue a constitutional challenge. It’s a good argument.”
