Monica Bruns, a Paralegal at Farris, is a member of Kelowna’s Law Day Organizing Committee and has helped to organize events, such as Ask-a-Lawyer sessions, courthouse tours, and mock trials for Grade 6 students, in celebration of BC Law Week.
BC Law Week is an initiative of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch that celebrates the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms 26 years ago. On Saturday, April 18th between 10am and 2pm, the public and media are invited to attend Law Day at the Kelowna Courthouse on Water Street.
Law Week provides an excellent opportunity for the profession to educate the public about the vital role that lawyers and the judiciary serve in guaranteeing an open, independent and unbiased judicial system. This year’s Law Day theme is Access to Justice: Public Confidence in the Justice System, and the Law Day events provide the public with the opportunity to learn about the law, the legal profession and some of the legal institutions that form the cornerstones of our Canadian democracy.
