        <p>The partners at Farris would like to congratulate client Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation on the award of a U.S. $140million contract with the United States Department of Defense (DoD) Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) through the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC). </p>

<p>Tekmira Pharmaceuticals, a leader in RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics, will work to advance a treatment for the Ebola virus infection, which is lethal to humans. </p>

        <p>Farris Managing Partner, Dominic Petraroia attended the presentation of a $225,000 cheque in donation to the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) Foundation. Dominic Petraroia is Chair of the KGH Foundation Board. </p>

<p>The money will be used to purchase an immunohistochemistry instrument for the lab at KGH and was generated solely by funds raised by the Rutland Auxiliary&#8217;s Thrift Shop in Kelowna.</p>

McPhee Economic Consulting acted as financial advisors and played a significant role in the structuring and negotiation of the transaction.</p>

<p>Team Farris beat out two-time winners Davis LLP who had confidently issued a challenge to other law firms in The Advocate.</p>

<p>The competition, which is billed as a friendly sparring match between some of Vancouver&#8217;s most competitive brains and professions to raise money for literacy, raised at least $20,000 from the event.</p>

<p>In total, 160 people in 20 teams signed up including at least four B.C Court of Appeal justices who left after the third round to return to their courtrooms.</p>

<p>The dinner, co-hosted by Merck and held at the historic Chicago Cultural Centre, provided an opportunity to bring all the members of the BC delegation together with key international representatives to kick-off the convention and network.</p>

<p>The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) Convention 2010 hosted a record number of partnering meetings, drew over 15,000 leaders from 65 countries and highlighted a broad array of top-level speakers including former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush; former Vice President Al Gore; Margaret Hamburg, MD, FDA Commissioner; Roger Beachy, Chief Scientist for the US Department of Agriculture and Director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture; and David Kappos, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United State Patent and Trademark Office.</p>

        <p>VANCOUVER - With the lowest percentage of computer monitors left on, Farris has been declared one of three winners of Cadillac Fairview&#8217;s GREEN AT WORK&#8482; Tenant Team Monitor Shutdown Challenge.</p>

<p>The Monitor Shutdown Challenge was a campaign to encourage tenants to turn off their computer monitors every evening, with the hopes of turning this action into a sustained behaviour. Turning off your computer monitors every evening is a simple action that can save a great deal of energy.</p>

<p>Farris is proud to participate in this GREEN AT WORK&#8482; campaign and supports Cadillac Fairview in its goal to make our tenant community greener!</p>

      <title>Farris Faux Fighters Compete in Kelowna Ski2Sea Race</title>

        <p>KELOWNA - Farris&#8217; Kelowna office participated in a race that runs from the slopes of Big White to the shores of Kelowna&#8217;s City Park: this year&#8217;s 30th anniversary of the Interior Savings Ski2Sea, which took place on April 11, 2010. </p>

<p>Among the Farris Faux Fighters representing Farris&#8217; Kelowna office were <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/Ross-Langford/" title="Ross Langford">Ross Langford</a>, <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/Peter-CT-MacPherson/" title="Peter MacPherson">Peter MacPherson</a>, <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/Kevin-Kingston/" title="Kevin Kingston">Kevin Kingston</a>, Gary Bruckner, <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/michael-g.-hansen/" title="Michael Hansen">Michael Hansen</a>, <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/Thomas-S-Kent/" title="Thomas Kent">Thomas Kent</a>, and <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/Aaron-PG-Dow/" title="Aaron Dow">Aaron Dow</a>.</p>

<p>The relay race comprises the following six legs, in order of completion: alpine skiing, nordic skiing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, and canoeing/kayaking (with two people required for the last leg and all team members required to cross the finish line with the canoe equipment).</p>

        <p>VANCOUVER - Farris, Vaughan, Wills &amp; Murphy LLP is pleased to welcome <a href="http://www.farris.com/farris-lawyers/profile/victor-w.-tsao/" title="Victor Tsao">Victor Tsao</a> as an Associate. Victor joins the firm&#8217;s Corporate Commercial, Securities &amp; Corporate Finance, and Mergers &amp; Acquisitions practice groups.</p>

<p>Victor is fluent in Mandarin Chinese as well as Japanese.&nbsp; He was born and raised in China; he later lived and studied in Japan before relocating to Canada.</p>

<p>Victor completed his Bachelor&#8217;s curriculum (Honours) in Computer Science at Queen&#8217;s University; he then operated and managed two start-up software development companies for a number of years before turning to a career in law.&nbsp; Victor was trained in the field of intellectual property law as well as corporate commercial law, first at a national boutique intellectual property law firm, then at a large national firm.</p>

<p>Victor has strong ties to both China and Japan, and possesses insightful appreciation of the business cultures of both countries.</p>

        <p>KELOWNA - In what was an inaugural fundraiser for the local United Way, twelve people from Farris, Vaughan, Wills &amp; Murphy LLP&#8217;s Kelowna office <a href="http://www.farris.com/images/uploads/planepullposterrevised.pdf">pulled a plane</a> on April 23rd (pictured below).</p>

<p>The event received <a href="http://www.am1150.ca/news/565/1120773" title="local news coverage">local news coverage</a> and raised over $20,000 for the United Way, with 17 teams from local businesses participating.</p>
