Ron Dueck presents paper at CTF BC Tax Conference on new rules governing inter-corporate dividends

Farris partner Ron Dueck co-authored and presented a paper at the Canadian Tax Foundation’s 2016 British Columbia Tax Conference on the topic of how corporations can navigate the new rules under subsection 55(2) of the Income Tax Act to ensure that otherwise tax-free inter-corporate dividends will not become taxable.

Farris associate Martin Twigg was featured in the September 2016 issue of the Canadian Privacy Law Review with an article examining the recent investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada into the privacy practices of an e-mail marketing company.

Letter of Gratitude for Work of Cathie Boies Parker and Jasmine MacAdam in BC v. Adamson 2016 BCSC

Farris received a letter of appreciation from the Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS) in recognition of the work that Cathie Boies Parker and Jasmine MacAdam did in British Columbia v. Adamson 2016 BCSC. They successfully defended against the Province’s interlocutory injunction application.

The Canadian Office of the Privacy Commissioner has published Farris Associate Yun Li-Reilly’s article on how the right to be forgotten should protect children’s online reputation. This article is a shortened version of Yun’s Masters Thesis at Harvard Law School.

Farris Kelowna Participates in ‘One Bag’ Challenge for a Good Cause

The lawyers and staff in the Farris Kelowna office were challenged to participate in the ‘One Bag’ challenge, which encourages people to donate food to the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. Once challenged, participants must go to the food bank within 48 hours to either drop off one bag of food or make an online donation. The final count was 17 bags for the food bank!

On August 3, 2016, Copper Mountain Mining Corporation (“Copper Mountain”) completed a bought deal offering (the “Offering”) of units (the “Units”). Each Unit entitles the holder to one common share of Copper Mountain and one-half of one common share purchase warrant of Copper Mountain.
