Ryan first came to the firm as a summer student in 2002. Upon completion of his LL.B., Ryan returned to complete his articles in 2003, and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2004.
Ryan maintains a diverse immigration practice at Farris providing advice to clients on a variety of immigration matters, including assisting Canadian companies wishing to bring foreign nationals into Canada on work permits and other related applications.
Ryan has assisted numerous individuals in obtaining Permanent Residence Status in Canada and Canadian Citizenship. Specifically Ryan has considerable working experience with the following: Applications to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program; Applications for Permanent Residence (Business Class, Family Class, and Skilled Worker Class); Applications for Labour Market Opinions for Foreign Workers; Work Permit Applications under NAFTA and other International Agreements; Work Permit Applications pursuant to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and Citizenship Applications; Applications to overcome inadmissibility on the basis of criminality; Assisting otherwise admissible applicants obtain entry to Canada by way of Temporary Resident Permit; Assisting clients to enter Canada as Business Visitors.
Ryan is particularly interested in assisting companies to address their labour shortages through the use of skilled and unskilled foreign workers. Ryan is knowledgeable in the particular programs available, both provincially and federally, to assist companies wishing to avail themselves of this growing market for skilled workers.
In addition to his immigration practice, Ryan practises in the area of employment law. In this regard Ryan has assisted senior counsel in a variety of matters before the BC Superior Courts, the Federal Courts, the BC Human Rights Tribunal and labour relations boards.
Ryan has provided advice to and appeared on behalf of clients before a number of administrative tribunals. Complementing his immigration practice with respect to hiring of foreign workers, Ryan provides ongoing advice to his clients with respect to the drafting of employment agreements and the structuring of consulting relationships.
