Farris has acted and continues to act for the public authority in a number of major transportation infrastructure projects in British Columbia, including the Golden Ears Bridge Project, the Port Mann/Highway 1 Project, and the South Fraser Perimeter Road Project.
Farris has also acted and continues to act in relation to other major infrastructure projects, both in British Columbia and other jurisdictions in Canada, including the North Island Hospitals Project, the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre Project, the RCMP E Division Headquarters Relocation Project, the Alberta Schools Alternative Procurement (ASAP) III Project, the Southeast Stoney Trail Project and the Iqaluit Airport Improvement Project.
Farris also acts in the transportation infrastructure sector for major terminal operators in the Port of Vancouver, and for South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority in relation to the transit system operated by it in the Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley areas of British Columbia.
Many of the infrastructure projects with respect to which Farris lawyers have acted or are acting have been structured as public private partnerships (P3’s) involving both public authorities and private enterprise, using a design-build-finance-operate model and variations of that model. Farris understands the requirements of both the public sector and private sector participants in P3 transactions and, together with our senior tax consultant, Sandy Sheinin, C.A., we are able to offer integrated and coordinated legal and tax advisory services to all P3 market participants.
Farris construction litigators have extensive experience in construction litigation and disputes, including arbitration and mediation.
We act for a wide range of participants in the construction industry including owners, developers, architects, engineers, design professionals, subcontractors, lenders, and government entities. Our lawyers’ experience covers the spectrum from basic construction disputes to large, complex, multi-party litigation in respect of large capital projects.
Our lawyers have successfully acted for clients involved in numerous types of construction related claims such as cost over-runs, delays, acceleration and loss of productivity claims, builders liens, warranty, tenders and requests for proposals, building envelope failures, equipment failures, and product liability claims.
Farris lawyers work with their clients to effectively manage construction disputes and to obtain the best outcome for clients in the most cost effective manner.
